Ways to Maintain Strong Friendships Over the Summer, By Noemi Reyes

The 2014-2015 year has been one of charitable memories for Best Buddies chapters around the world. Members were able to partake in awesome events such as Spread the Word to End the Word, the Best Buddies friendship walk and most importantly all the fun activities year round with their buddies. As the year continues, members remain excited for the Best Buddies Leadership Conference occurring July 17th-20th in Bloomington, Indiana. The energy remains strong but with the hot summer months just around the corner and school letting out, the YLC would love to share the ways in which you can maintain strong friendships with your buddies over the summer.

Ways in which to maintain strong friendships over summer:

  • Use technology to your advantage: Nowadays with the convenience of cellphones, awesome social media sites and the internet at our fingertips, it is easy to stay in touch with friends. Don’t forget to reach out to friends by tagging them in an awesome picture, posting on their walls or sending them a funny tweet. There are a variety of ways in which you can reach out to your buddies!
  • Plan a fun adventure: Summer months are an awesome time to spend doing the things you’ve always wanted to do! This is the time to watch the movie you have been dying to see all year! It’s time to visit that awesome amusement park nearby! Go kayaking if that’s what you desire. Just remember the golden rule, “It doesn’t matter where you go but who you go with.” Make it an adventure by asking your buddies to tag along!
  • Pen Pal it Out: Maybe distance is a problem for you and your buddy over the summer months. A fun way to stay in contact with your buddy is to become pen pals. Now this doesn’t necessarily have to be done with the old fashioned pen and paper method. Sending each other emails over the summer can be an easy way to keep your buddy updated on the things going on in your life.

Don’t forget to have fun, when times get tough it’s nice to know you can always count on your buddies to bring a smile to your face!
